The upcoming CHRYSLERs
We’ve shown pictures earlier of Chrysler’s upcoming rear-wheel-drive “LX” hiding in the modified shell of the current cars, but here are the first pictures of the car riding under its own skin — but unfortunately wearing lots of coverings, and we don’t believe it was to keep warm in Denver’s chilly winter.
The new car will switch the Chrysler sedans from a front-wheel drive platform to rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive as an option. Power is expected to come from an optional 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 or a base 3.5-liter V-6 powerplant, and the cars will share several components with Mercedes, including their five-speed automatic transmission and electronic stability control system.
We expect production to start in early 2004, with the new car arriving as a 2005 model. In addition to the sedan, there are strong rumors about a convertible version.
